Pascal Marty Bio

After graduating from the Oenology Institute of Bordeaux in 1982, Pascal Marty became an Oenologist for Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. where he worked for more than 14 years. Pascal quickly became an integral part of the company's global expansion into the United States and Chile. Following a joint venture between Baron Philippe and Robert Mondavi, Pascal moved to California to actively participate in Opus One project. A few years later, he moved to Chile to be a part of Viña Almaviva, the joint venture with Viña Concha y Toro in Maipo Valley.

In California, Pascal became a key technical member of the Opus One task force where he led the development and construction of a highly innovative winery and vineyard. Opus One, quickly became an award-winning wine (composed of Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Merlot), creating its own niche within the market place as the first true ultra-premium wine when it was launched in 1984.

In 1997, Pascal Marty was specially selected to develop the first super-premium Chilean wine following his appointment as Co-General Manager and Winemaker of Viña Almaviva. Utilizing Bordeaux "First Growth" principles, Pascal revitalized a 40 hectare vineyard and supervised the construction of the wine cellar. Since its launch, the wine has been consistently rated as the top Chilean wine in the market. Pascal Marty's wines have consistently received ratings in the extraordinary 95-100 point range by well-respected industry authorities as Robert Parker and Wine Spectator magazine.

In 2003, Pascal had the opportunity to form and design a unique project which lead to the creation of the first icon wine for Cousiño Macul winery called Lota. Since its launch this ultra-premium red blend has consistently received scores greater than 93 points as well as excellent reviews from the industry leaders.

Pascal has had a long deep-rooted career in the Chilean wine industry and around the world where he has a worked as Consultant Winemaker for several wineries in well recognized wine regions such as California, Oregon, Washington State, New York, Uruguay, and of course in Chile. Today, Pascal's experience and style can be found across Viña Marty's portfolio where tradition and experience from the Old World is blended with excellence and technicity of New World. Pascal is fully dedicated to growing Viña Marty by continuing to produce high quality wines that consumers enjoy, while also creating strong brands.
